Olaf Noorman, Mfc’s CEO stated about the investment
Monchy Food Co.’s CEO, Olaf Noorman, expressed in a statement that their investment is geared towards ensuring the purchase of their products occurs in close proximity to the source. This strategic move is intended to maximize benefits for the local economy and the environment. Despite Tanzania being a major exporter of cashews, only a mere 5% of the country’s raw cashew nuts undergo processing into cashew kernels.
Presently, a significant portion of Tanzanian raw cashew nuts is exported to Asia (specifically Vietnam and Cambodia) for processing before being shipped to Europe, covering an additional distance of approximately 11,000 kilometers. This extended supply chain contributes to the emission of a substantial amount of CO2, posing adverse effects on the environment.
Olaf Noorman stressed that this investment would empower Monchy Food Co. to process cashews in close proximity to their Tanzanian origin. This approach is poised to drastically reduce the transportation distance, thereby minimizing the carbon footprint and fostering local economic growth. Furthermore, supporting Tanzania’s economy through the expansion of their trade sector holds the potential to enhance the well-being of the Tanzanian population.

In the 2021/22 crop year, Tanzania generated a total of 240,159 tons of raw cashews.
Tanzania, an East African nation, recently revealed a staggering production of 240,159 tons of raw cashews during the 2021/22 crop season. This announcement holds immense significance, considering the health advantages of cashews, the economic impact on Tanzania, and the broader global implications. The ascending trajectory of Tanzania’s cashew industry has instilled optimism among stakeholders, anticipating promising prospects ahead. The noteworthy advancements in cashew production are poised not only to enhance Tanzania’s economic landscape but also to create additional employment opportunities, fostering overall economic growth.

In 2022, Tanzania consumed a substantial 70,000 tons of raw cashew nuts domestically.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade, in partnership with the Tanzania Confederation of Industry (CTI), is actively promoting the utilization of raw cashew nuts domestically. In the past, Tanzania primarily exported its raw cashews to India and Vietnam. However, there is now a concerted effort to process these nuts locally, generating increased profits for the people of Tanzania. Notably, the country processed a remarkable 100% more cashew nuts last year, amounting to 70,000 tons, compared to the previous year’s 34,000 tons. This initiative is fueling the expansion of Tanzania’s cashew nut industry, bolstering the well-being of many and playing a crucial role in the nation’s economic progress. Furthermore, The Cashew Council of Tanzania (CBT) has expressed its ambition to elevate raw cashew production to 400,000 tonnes in the 2022/23 crop year, a significant increase from the 240,159 tonnes produced in the 2021/2022 crop.
